Our variety of land and water recreation activities provides something for everyone! From team-building activities, to classic camp sports and games, we're serious about our fun here. Activities are included in Program Summer Camp registration, and retreat groups can select and schedule their choices as part of their retreat rental plan. Check out all the different activities we offer below, and then contact us for more info on how to add these experiences to your trip!

Big Things Are Happening at Highland Lakes Camp

God has opened the doors to bring us an incredible new challenge course, which is being donated through the generosity of Typhoon Texas. But we need your help to bring it home. Learn more here.

Water Recreation

Highland Lakes Camp offers two water areas: the lakefront and the pool. Head down to the lake to enjoy a thrilling banana boat ride, challenge your friends on the inflatable obstacle course, launch each other from the Blob, or take a swing on the floating climbing wall and trapeze deck! We also offer two-person kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.

Our beautiful pool is equipped with a water volleyball net and two water slides, and includes a range of depths and shallow water shelves. There are also two pavilions and plenty of seating for those who just want to sit back and relax.

Both areas are available to summer groups. In retreat season their availability is dependent on weather and staff availability. An HLC lifeguard must be present at all times, and lifejackets are required at the lakefront.

Challenge Course

The Challenge Course at HLC includes both High and Low Ropes Series, and offers great activities for team-building, problem solving, and thrill-seeking! The High Ropes include a variety of climbing challenges, the Zip Line, and the "Leap of Faith," or Power Pole.

The Low Ropes consist of several different challenge elements designed to test and build teamwork, creative thinking, communication, and much more. These activities are adaptable and are excellent for groups of adults, teens, or children.

Add any of the Challenge Course elements to your retreat plan, or come out for the day to participate. Summer Campers who have completed the 6th grade can participate in the Zip Line and Power Pole by signing up each morning while they are here.

Archer's Quest & Paintball

Looking for some fast-paced, competitive activities for your group? Check out the Archer's Quest arena, where teams of 8-10 players each battle in a dodge-ball style game with bows and padded arrows to tag their opponents and capture their castle! Archer's Quest can be reserved for an hour at a time, with multiple games played for up to 60 participants per hour. *A minimum of 16 players are needed to reserve the arena.*

The Paintball course is another great place to face off and work together to win a victory. Games are played with 10-20 participants, and a reservation of the course covers one hour of play time with multiple games, equipment, and one hopper of paint per person (additional paint can be purchased).

Both of these awesome activities are available all year round! Summer Campers can enjoy Archer's Quest and Paintball as part of recreation time, but must sign up and pay a fee for Paintball at morning sign-ups.

Ranges & Sports

What could be more classic-camp-fun than taking your aim at the archery or BB gun ranges, or racing around the BMX track? These activities are great as stand alone options, or as a combination to let your group roam between. An HLC staff member will be available to instruct and supervise.

Sports are a great way to stay active, have fun, and make new friendships. Highland Lakes offers two sand volleyball courts, two basketball courts, a tennis court, a kickball/softball field, GaGa Ball pits, 9 Square-In-The-Air, disc golf, and two large recreation fields. Some activities will require you to bring your own equipment. You can use these areas for free time games, to organize your own tournaments, or work with our staff to plan an exciting and engaging game, obstacle course, or race!
